Two days ago (26th of November 2015) a new animated video was launched by the UNESCO International Groundwater Resources Assessment Centre (IGRAC). The video is part of a campaign called #HiddenResource, which aims at raising the awareness about the importance of groundwater. As I believe in the importance of these water resources, I’m happy to join the effort and share the video.
I cannot agree more with the statement from the press release:
“You simply can’t manage what you don’t measure. Without insight of how much water is stored below ground, you will not know how much water you can sustainably consume until it’s already too late. Therefore, more research is needed to ensure safe drinking water for the generations to come.”
Groundwater, the Hidden Resource from IGRAC on Vimeo.
“Water is essential to human, plant, and animal survival. From huge cities to tiny villages, about 50% of the world’s population depends on groundwater every day.
So what’s the problem? Well, while groundwater is the most abundant source of fresh water on earth, it remains a hidden resource. We often know where to locate it, but what really keeps it “hidden” is the limited amount of data on its availability, quantity and quality. In other words: we often have insufficient real insight in the water below.
Now it’s time to uncover the mysteries behind the great resource of groundwater!”
